Established in 1979, UPMC CCP – South Hills has been providing pediatric care to children and teens throughout the Pittsburgh area. With two office locations – Bethel Park and Waterdam – we are available when your family needs us most.

At UPMC CCP – South Hills, we believe in preventive health care, with a strong emphasis on patient and parent education. We follow the recommendations of the American Board of Pediatrics for routine check-ups, immunizations, diagnostic screenings and appropriate counseling at each age period, from birth through adolescence.

By functioning as your Primary Care Medical Home, UPMC CCP – South Hills puts your child at the center of health care decision-making. Your chosen pediatrician, along with the rest of our office staff, will work in partnership with your family to coordinate and personalize care. Your provider will also work with you and your child to establish a unique care management plan.

As a part of the UPMC CCP network, and under the leadership and guiding principles of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, UPMC CCP – South Hills is dedicated to offering exceptional pediatric care, right in your community.

In the case of a serious emergency, call 911 or go to the emergency room.

Newborns

Once you have delivered your baby, please tell the hospital staff which UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics’ office you have chosen for your baby’s care. Depending upon the hospital, either a member of the UPMC CCP care team or a hospital-based pediatrician will examine your baby before they leave the hospital.

Remember to call your CCP office before leaving the hospital to schedule your baby’s first check-up with us. We will see your baby in our office as soon as necessary after hospital discharge, typically within two to three days.

New Patients

Our office is always accepting new patients. Whether you’re joining us from another pediatric office, or you are welcoming a newborn into the world, UPMC CCP is always happy to make your child a part of the UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics network. History of Our Practice

UPMC CCP - South Hills is one of the original five founding practices of UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics, established in 1996.

Our practice began as a solo general practice started after World War II by a Robert MacDonald, MD in Dormont. He was joined in 1979 by Robert Argentine Jr., MD — a former patient — and then by Chuck Silverstein, MD in 1981. The original office was located at the corner of Washington Road and Highland Road in Bethel Park. Since then, the practice has grown significantly, adding a second office in the 1990s.

We continue to welcome new patients of all ages at both of our locations. Our office procedures are designed to provide a safe in-person experience for all patients and family members. In addition, we also offer video visits when appropriate. Through our affiliation with UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, our patients receive access to an array of specialty care including behavioral health services provided right within our offices.

From our small beginnings, our general pediatric practice has been in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh for many decades. Our providers through the years have remained committed to our mission statement of providing quality and convenient pediatric care to our families. Families can rely on our combined clinical experience and expertise in well child care, and managing behavioral problems for children and young adults, from birth through college age.
