UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics offers consultation appointments for adolescents who are interested in discussing changes to their current nicotine use. A trained nicotine consultant will meet with the adolescent for a one-time, 60-minute virtual appointment.
The consultation:
- Addresses nicotine dependence by offering an in-depth look at the adolescent’s nicotine use and past quit attempts
- Explores motivation to make changes now
- Determines preferences for support and quit aids.
If the adolescent wants ongoing support for nicotine cessation, they can continue receiving support through the SMART Choices family support program.
A referral from the adolescent’s primary care team at CCP is required for a nicotine consultation. Parents, caregivers, or adolescents should talk with their primary care team at CCP if they would like to be referred for a nicotine cessation consultation.
