Prom Safety

Prom season is underway, and you’re probably very excited for the big day. Make prom a safe and fun experience that you’ll remember forever with the following tips:

  • Make your plans for the entire prom day ahead of time to help alleviate stress the day of. Share these plans with your parents in case your plans change or if you need help.
  • If you have a cell phone, make sure it is fully charged ahead of time, and take your cell phone charger with you to prom.
  • Make an agreement with your friends to check on each other throughout the evening.
  • You may face certain pressures on prom night, such as drinking, doing drugs or having sex.
    • Always respect yourself, and know that it is OK to say no. Just because friends or classmates are participating in these activities doesn’t mean that it is a good idea or the right thing to do.
    • Always wear a seatbelt and do not get into a car if the driver has been drinking. Have a plan in place if this scenario occurs, such as asking your parents to pick you up.
  • When posting your prom photos and videos to social media, remember to always use good judgment.
  • If you’re going to an after-prom party, take at least one friend along.
