When sharing a sext, there is no control over who it is shared with after hitting “send.” The sext could lead to cyber bullying, slut shaming, blackmail or general public shame.
Depending on the fallout of the sext, it could cause a tarnished reputation that could affect college admissions or future employment or, in serious cases, may result in legal consequences. A single lapse in judgement now could have a greater impact on your future. If you receive a sext, don’t show it to anyone, delete it immediately and notify a trusted adult.
